Position Summary:
The RN - Crisis Intervention is a frontline clinician embedded in the Client Joint Command Center, working
with city outreach teams to respond to mental health crises among the homeless population. This role is
critical in triaging psychiatric emergencies, de-escalating situations, and initiating involuntary hospital
transport when necessary under NYS Mental Hygiene Law Section 9.58.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with Client Crisis Coordinators and Outreach Workers to conduct real-time psychiatric crisis
interventions on NYC streets, subways, and parks.
- Assess individuals for mental illness, substance use, or physical conditions posing harm to self/others.
- Authorize transport to C.P.E.P. facilities when warranted by mental health law.
- Collaborate with law enforcement and EMS to ensure safe, respectful crisis responses.
- Assist in debriefing and discharge planning with hospitals and crisis teams.
Registered Nurse Job Descriptions
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of field assessments and removal decisions.
- Successfully register with the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) as a mobile crisis team
clinician.
- Participate in coordinated efforts to reduce chronic street homelessness and improve crisis pathways.
Required Qualifications:
- Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License.
- Valid AHA BLS Certification.
- Completion of Primary Source License Verification.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to work in high-stress environments and handle emergency field situations.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in behavioral or mental health.
- Completion of coursework in crisis de-escalation, psychiatric nursing, or mobile health.
- Experience collaborating with first responders and psychiatric facilities.
- Excellent verbal communication and clinical documentation skills
