Department: Med-Tele | RN
*Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, 8 hrs of stroke education (doesn't have to be NIHSS).*
- # Beds: 25
- Nurse: Patient Ratios: Med/Surg 1:5; Telemetry 1:4, mixed acuity.
- Required Certifications: BLS ACLS, 8 hrs of stroke education (doesn't have to be NIHSS).
- Common diagnosis: General MS, Active stroke post ICU, COPD, CHF, Pneumonia, asthma, polysubstance abuse, diabetes,
psych patients, and some post surgical.
- Experience: Must have Stroke and Telemetry Experience. Must be able to read and interpret tele. Need to have 8 hrs of
stroke education (will provide 4 hrs of additional stroke education).
- Are RN's required to titrate drips: No
- Common titratable: Heparin
- Tele/Monitor Techs: Tele Tech located on a different unit. RNs print and read their strips once per shift. Nihon Kohden
monitors.
- Charge Nurse: ANCC/Charge Nurse will take a light assignment when necessary.
- Nurse Aides: PCTs, Job Duties: basic cares, vitals, EKGs, phlebotomy (preferred- education team will assess comp), ADLs,
changing linens, supply restocking, and more.
- RT/Equipment: RT in the building and will administer resp treatments, will assist in managing resp equipment: Nasal
Cannula, Highflow, Home Cpap & Bipap.
- Shifts & Scheduling: RNs Shifts: 7-7:30. PCTs Shifts: Days 0700-1530, Evenings 1500-2330, Nights 2300-0730. 4-6 wk
schedule. Management will ask for travelers availability and will do their best to accommodate requests, but nothing is
finalized until the schedule has been balanced, travelers asked to stay flexible and help fill gaps in the permanent staffing.
Do not guarantee block scheduling.
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend.
- Holiday Requirements: May be asked to go in the Holiday Rotation.
- Is there Call or a Standby requirement?: No
- Floating Requirements?: Yes, if there is a need on other med/surg telemetry units; could float to Long Term Pulm on15th
floor which takes vents but travelers wouldn't be given these patients. First to float.
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Unit Specific Orientation: 1 day of unit orientation with a preceptor.
